MS ZANA MASOMBUKA
THE NDEBELE SUPERHERO
Zana Masombuka has showcased her work with the Julie Miller Art Institute for their Winter Art Collective’18 and the Spring Art Collective’18 exhibitions; as well at the J&B Hive Braamfontein, as a part of the “Friends Of King Zimela” exhibition in 2018.
She is a recent graduate from the University of The Underground Summer School Program’19 aimed at transnational education and the formulation of a Post-Nation State that took place in New York City. She has also exhibited with Inaugural Edition of the Underline Show’19 at the Museum Of African Design.
She was invited to speak at the 2019 Antenna Festival as part of the top 20 Antenna Global graduates; hosted by Dutch Design Week and Design Indaba in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
Zana has showcased with ParisJoburg as part of the “Africa A.Live” exhibition which took place in Paris, France during December 2019.
She is one of the 6 winners of the 7th Edition ARP Residency Program which resulted 2 work in progress exhibitions and 1 final finished work show. The first work in progress was a sound and scent installation titled “2009:Kwabafileko” which showcased at Satellite in Cape Town (South Africa); and the second was a video installation titled “2009:Umjaphethe Wenzani?” which showcased at Surbabia in Granada, Spain.
The 7th Edition ARP Residency Program ultimately resulted in the showcasing of the culmination of the 2009 project titled “2009: Namba S’khambe” which exhibited at the Centro Luigi Di Sarro in Rome, Italy.
This body of work has also shown at the Investec Cape Town Art Fair 2020.
